Fire at the Mill

Prologue
So I hit the trifecta of illness, day job and weather for the last 3 nights.  That means its time to get back in the gym for #2AAA Holy Family at Minneapolis Washburn.  A frigid night won't keep me away.  But the bad traffic means that The Referee Formerly Known as Al Sharpton and the Holy Family varsity cut it very close to game time.  No Joe Conroy or Jack Mugford for Holy Family.  St. Thomas and Hamline in the building looking for talent.   Washburn shellacked by another AAA ranked opponent Waconia previously.

Song of the Day

Game Time
Joe Hanel with a tip in and a Justin Dahl putback early for the big Holy Family front line.  Jeff Jones and Evan Shepherd counter with triples for Washburn.  Holy Family point guard Brent Hentges on the bench with 2 fouls as Shepherd makes his bomb.  14-10 Holy Family at the 12 minute mark.  Then Holy Family breaks it open.  Justin Dahl inside for a 3 point play and then a pair of free throws.  Then Jeff Jones with a foul and adds a technical to boot.  Duncan Faris makes both techs and then runs out for a bucket.  Hanel drives for the lefty finish and Dahl adds another bucket.  Its a 21-5 Fire run to blow the game open.  35-15 at the 6 minute mark.  Faris and Landon Kimm tack on a couple of bombs each.  That counters the offense of JoBreil Powell for Washburn.

The lead is 28 at half, no danger in the 2nd half.  Holy Family doesn't cut the head off the snake so we don't get running time until 4 minutes left.  Washburn takes another one on the chin from a ranked Wright County opponent.  Holy Family wins 84-50.  Justin Dahl with 15, 11 and 4 blocks on my sheet.  4 of the 5 Fire starters in double figures with Duncan Faris leading with 16 off the bench.  Evan Shepherd leading Washburn with 16.  Jeff Jones held to 8 after going off for 37 against Waconia.

Holy Family improves to 2-0 and the road to January is brutal.  New Prague, Blake, Rochester JM (tipoff classic), at Waconia, Shakopee and Lakeville North at the Lakeville Rotary tourney all before the month is done.  Washburn is now 1-2.  They kick off league play at Roosevelt next Tuesday before hosting Hill-Murray next Friday.
