2015-16 Section 2AAAA Preview

This is the 20th preview in my 2015-2016 season preview series.  Now we move on to all the sections in class AAAA.  This starts with a look at section 2AAAA.  For a list of all the season previews and how they are generated, click here.

Section 2AAAA (8 teams)
Defending Champion: Shakopee

New teams in the subsection
  • Eden Prairie (6AAAA)
  • Edina (6AAAA)
  • Minnetonka (6AAAA)
Teams that left the subsection
  • Bloomington Kennedy (3AAA)
  • Burnsville (3AAAA)
  • Lakeville South (1AAAA)
Predicted Seeding
  1. Eden Prairie
  2. Shakopee
  3. Edina
  4. Chaska
  5. Minnetonka
  6. Bloomington Jefferson
  7. Prior Lake
  8. Chanhassen
This may be the deepest section in AAAA from top to bottom . Definitely not the firepower at the top like 6AAAA, but there is not a bad team in this section.  Eden Prairie and Shakopee are the 2 clear favorites.  They could meet twice in 4 days over New Year's between the Eden Prairie tourney final on December 30th and their regular meeting at Shakopee on January 2nd.  Chaska will fight with Edina and Minnetonka for a home game.  Jefferson and Prior Lake both with good junior classes looking to move up next year.  No other place to put Chanhassen in a rebuilding year though they will be better than your average 8th seed.

Sleeper: Minnetonka. The Skippers don't have size but then again size in this section is hard to come by.  What they do have is a high powered backcourt with Amar Miller, NDSU commit Seth Coatta and Cedric Boone.  The teams in the section are very sound defensively but Amar Miller can create against most anybody 1 on 1.  That opens up the shooters.

Section Winner: Eden Prairie. After the heartbreak of last year's giveaway vs Hopkins in the 6AAAA final, I think they move on.  Too many solid guards in Rudrud, Geolat, Jacobus and Chose.  They're very sound on defense and they'll always have that football guy to do the interior dirty work.
