Siwek does it again

Prologue
Back to the South Suburban for a good matchup between red hot Rosemount and Lakeville South.  Rosemount coming in with 6 straight wins including rematch wins over a pair of ranked teams in Lakeville North and Shakopee.  They're trying to keep pace with Lakeville North for 3rd in the league and the 2nd seed in section 3AAAA.  Lakeville South 1 game behind them at 7-5 but 6 of those 7 wins against the bottom 4 teams in the league.  Rosemount got a game winner from Caleb Siwek in the 1st meeting to win at home 65-63.

Game Time
The early pace is slow.  Lakeville South playing a lot of 3-2 zone but mixing in some man as well.  Both teams very patient on the offensive end.  Reid Patterson the 1st 4 of the game for Lakeville South but then Cougars points hard to come by.  Siwek puts Rosemount on the board with a steal for a free throw.  Then he'll hit a kickout 3 for a 13-9 Irish lead as we're past the midway point of the half.  Avery Mast shuffle cut for a bucket after making 2 FTs. Siwek another triple in an 8-0 Rosemount run that breaks a 17 all tie.  But Mast buries 2 right wing 3s in the last minute for some Cougars momentum.  25-23 Rosemount at the break

Mast runs right down the middle and takes a feed for 2 for a 34-32 Lakeville South lead with 14 minutes left.  Then a great Patterson sequence.  He'll save a tipped ball on the defensive end to steal a possession. He then trails the play for a straight away 3.  Next possession its off the ball screen and bang from the top again.  That ends a 9-0 Cougars run for a 43-35 Lakeville South lead with 11:26 left.

Sam Kuseske why not from the top for 3.  Then Siwek goes strong for his 1st points on the half.  Soph Anish Ramalall off the bench with a 3 from the right corner breaking down the zone.  5:45 left and its 47-45 Rosemount back on top with a 12-2 run of their own.  Rosemount putting Lakeville South in a world of hurt defensively.  Against man, Rosemount just pounded the ball in the post.  Against the zone, it was hit the high post and look to a big on the weakside block or a shooter in the opposite corner.

Patterson showing again that he loves the bright lights of crunch time.  He pulls up for a short jumper.  Then a nice head fake and 1 dribble into a right wing followed by a drive and finish for 2 more.  Siwek from the parking lot cuts the lead to 52-50 with 3:07 left.  Noah Loehr 2 FTs working inside and then a nice post move for 2 more.  Patterson with a nice feed to Chase Androff with 1:10 left and we're all tied at 54.

Rosemount runs offense to kill the clock and they'll take time with 14.6 left.  Here we go again.  A bit surprising to take the timeout but not unreasonable.  Out of the timeout, it ends up with Siwek high on the right side.  He gets a ghost screen and drives inside the left elbow.  He gets stopped but hits the tough fadeaway with 2.1 seconds left.  Lakeville South out of a timeout has their inbounds pass tipped.  Clock doesn't start and somehow Lakeville South will keep it with 0.5 left.  All of this right in front of the Rosemount bench and they are rightfully not pleased with the home friendly clock.  1 more timeout but Lakeville South fumbles the inbounds.  Siwek wins it again for Rosemount.  Irish win 56-54.

Post Game
Lakeville South falls to 7-6 overall and in the South Suburban.  With Farmington's win over Apple Valley, the Cougars are now 6th in the league thanks to the head to head tiebreak.  Reid Patterson with 15 of his 21 in the second half. He knocked down 4 threes in the game.  Avery Mast with 3 triples and 13 points in the 1st half.  But only the 1 mentioned bucket in the 2nd half.  Mixing the zone and man defense slowed things down in the 1st half, but in the 2nd half they couldn't get stops.  They gave up scores on 9 of the last 11 possessions of the game for 21 points.  Next week they are at #6AAAA Shakopee and Prior Lake and home against #3AAAA Eastview.

Rosemount improves to 9-4 overall and in the league.  Its their 7th straight win.  They remain tied for 3rd with #8AAA Lakeville North who pulled the upset at #3AAAA Eastview.  Caleb Siwek a quiet night by his standards with 16 points and 3 triples.  I thought Sam Fliehe did a nice job defending him.  All 7 of his 2nd half points in the last 6:21.  Sam Kuseske with a nice outing of 11 points and a couple of 3s.  Soph Anish Ramalall 8 points off the bench with a couple 2nd half triples.  Next week the Irish host Eastview and Farmington before a trip to Burnsville.

Lakeville South shoots 12-15 in the 2nd half (all 3 misses were 3s) and still loses.  An EFG% of 65.3% and you lose totally insane.  That drops Czar's Law to 78-15 on the season.  But once again, when Czar's law fails, the winner does win turnovers.  But overall those really not a factor.  Rosemount shoots only 4-13 from the line to offset their attempts advantage.  Only 3 offensive rebounds for Lakeville South to 14 for Rosemount which ended up in 10 more shots for the game.  That's your difference.
