A Week of Blue

Game info here has been quiet this week so let's get caught up on what I've seen.  My games have had a shade of blue attached to them.  So here goes.

Monday: Trinity at Mounds Park Academy
No problems for Trinity in this one as they win 60-29.  Interesting action from Mounds Park Academy though.  They would go horns with the school's all-time scoring leader at the point, Brendan Connolly.  Then the interesting part is that they would go corner action out of it but have the point guard follow under the post instead of going over the top.  That gave a better screening angle.  Connolly set that screen 3 times early and got wide open 3s stepping out after setting it.  Another round of the magnificent Pulled Pork meal deal always makes the trip worth it.

Tuesday: Chaska at Bloomington Jefferson
This one was for the top spot in the Metro West.  Pizza, popcorn and Red Gatorade (no Pepsi available sadly) for the meal deal.  But my Gatorade was mostly frozen.  Chaska would survive a very ugly first half and be tied at the break.  Then the 2nd half, they go 22-27 from the charity stripe vs 2-2 for Jefferson.  That makes up for only making 5 field goals in that half.  Myles Hanson with 20 of his 24 in the 2nd half (14-15 FTs).  He also added 11 rebounds.  He put the game away with 7 straight points when the lead was 3.  The irony of this game is a Jefferson parent wondering why I limited my usual comments about their methodical style while their players are blowing me up online.  The teams are now tied on top of the Metro West standings.  Jefferson sees a 9 game winning streak snapped.  Chaska has now won 7 straight.  They could meet again in the 2AAAA section playoffs.  Chaska looks to have the inside track to the 1 seed there.

Wednesday: Cooper at #2AAAA Maple Grove
Due to a late night of the real world, I had to watch this one online on mute.  But still no doubt about Brad Davison going absolutely nuts.  He goes off for a school record 43.  Tywhon Pickford adds 32 as Maple Grove wins 93-85.  Both teams not able to get stops as the lane looked like an interstate highway.  Cooper with limited size options but they have athletic guards and a scorer in Beijan Newbern.  He ended up with 28.  The Hawks made noise in the tourney last year and have the same tools to do it again.  Most of these guys are back next year too.

Thursday: Prairie Seeds at #7AAA Columbia Heights
Always have to get the Mug Root Beer on the hill.  No Willie Braziel for the game.  He was tossed on Tuesday vs De La Salle.   By a member of the JMOA to boot, the horror.  Prairie Seeds would take the early lead and hold it all the way until 27-22 with about 6 minutes left in the 1st half.  The story of this game would take over.  That's soph Jarvis Wright for Columbia Heights.  He comes off the bench and scores 12 straight Hylanders points.  Add in Lycans post AJ Abara sitting with 2 fouls and the moment totally shifts.  Heights goes from 5 down to 10 up at the half.

Abara with 2 hoops and Brian Robinson finishes an 11-2 Lycans run with 2 free throws.  61-56 Heights with 10:32 left.  But Wright is back in the game.  He buries a kickout for 3, then behind the back to Christian Kelly for a layup.  Then a slick pass to Wendell Matthews for 2 free throws.  Brian and Jamar Robinson both have to sit with 4 fouls.  Daveon Gibson with a 3 for Prairie Seeds as they try to hang around down 6.  But Wright adds 2 more bombs and a score in the post.  He had the answer for any Prairie Seeds run.  Columbia Heights wins 97-87.  Soph Jarvis Wright off the Columbia Heights bench with 31 points and 7 bombs to lead all scorers.  Wendell Matthews adds 24.  Quentin Hardrict with 19.  Daveon Gibson with 6 3s and 26 points to try to keep Prairie Seeds close.  AJ Abara with 17 of his 23 in the 2nd half.  Lycans star guard Brian Robinson with 16 but only 1 field goal in the 2nd half.

The week of blue concludes with 2 trips to Hopkins
