Skippers get the rivalry win

Prologue
To Hopkins for one of the fiercest rivalries in the metro as the #4AAAA Royals host Lake Conference foe #10AAAA Minnetonka.  I'm becoming more disillusioned with the Walking Taco at Hopkins.  Sun Chips and special lettuce just aren't doing it for me.  Czar, have a Snickers, you're not yourself when you're hungry.  20 ounces of Sprite to enjoy while listening to The Lean Mean Performance Machine (AKA the Hopkins Pep Band).  Hopkins students go old school pulling out newspaper for the introductions to ignore Minnetonka.  Classic rivalry material.

Game Time:
Xavier Johnson hot early for Hopkins. 3 bombs in the first 6:30 for a 17-12 Hopkins lead.  Then a Minnetonka 10-0 run with Amar Miller going for 5 of those and finishing it with a 3 point play.  22-17 Hopkins midway thru the half.  Ishmael El-Amin off the Hopkins bench to pickup the offense.  He goes for 3, drives for 2, another bomb, 2 free throws and runs for another late bucket.  Justin Moes and Cedric Boone bury 3s to keep the Minnetonka offense going.  But plenty of bad 3s by both sides in the later part of the half.  36-33 Minnetonka at the half.

Its Seth Coatta and Moes starting the half with 3s and quickly the lead is 9.  Hopkins counters with an 8-0 run with a John Warren dunk and 2 Johnson hoops in that run.  Amar Miller with a jumper and Peter Weiss with a layup off a Royals turnover and the lead is back to 7.  Johnson with back to back bombs, Greg Warshaw with an offensive board for 2 free throws for the lead and Eric Davis crashes the glass for 2 more to end the 10-0 Hopkins run.  53-50 Hopkins with 9:30 left.  Minnetonka on the ropes but Boone responds with a 3 point play and coach Dasovich gets a timeout to relax his guys.  53 all.

Then its a dogfight.  Warren scores and Johnson with a wide open transition 3 for a 4 point lead.  Miller responds with a difficult 3 point play.  El-Amin with a floater and step back jumper.  Boone scores and then an elevator screen for a Coatta 3.  63 all with 5:10 left before Evan Altenburg fouls out.  Johnson backdoor and reverses it home but Miller counters with a spin for 2.    Shahid 2 free throws and Miller knocks down a jumper to keep the game tied at 67 inside of 4 to play.

Boone drives and scores and that's countered by a nice backcut and stop and pop by El-Amin.  Warren 2 free throws countered by another Miller jumper.  The teams trade misses and Warren runs for a layup.  Miller strong to the rack, gets bulldozed and still converts the 3 point play with 1:31 left.  74-73 Minnetonka leads.  Hopkins takes time and runs a backdoor set to post up Vinnie Shahid on Miller.  He may have gotten hit but no call.  Minnetonka will hold and take a pair of timeouts to save possession.  With 20 seconds left, they overthrow a pass for a turnover but Hopkins gives it right back.

Hopkins is forced to foul being down 1 and they get Miller.  He misses the front end and here we go.  Hopkins goes without a timeout.  Warren drives left baseline and finds Xavier Johnson for a right wing 3 with about 6 seconds left.  That's no good.  Minnetonka rebounds and Miller makes both ends of the bonus with 1.6 seconds left.  Hopkins takes time to setup 1 last chance.  Its a Valparaiso look with Warren getting the catch at the top of the key and finding a wide open Shahid on the left wing.  His shot is online but short at the buzzer.  Minnetonka wins 76-73.

Post Game
With Edina getting a win over Eden Prairie tonight, this was a huge win for Minnetonka in the conference and section races.  The Skippers now guaranteed to finish at least 1 game ahead of of Edina in the league standings.  I think this win gives them a firm grasp on the 3 seed in 6AAAA with Edina and Armstrong for 4 and 5 in a coin flip with Armstrong's loss to Maple Grove tonight.  Amar Miller comes up absolutely huge for the Skippers with 25 points.  He scored 11 of their last 13 points taking over in the last 4:15.  Seth Coatta with 3 triples and 15 points.  Cedric Boone adds 13 with a pair of 3s.  Justin Moes with a pair of 3s for 10.  Ryan Mattingly good minutes in relief of Altenburg.  Minnetonka finishes the regular season at home against Wayzata on Friday.

Xavier Johnson leads Hopkins with 6 3s and 26 points.  John Warren had 2 fouls in the 1st half but came on in the 2nd half to score 13 of his 16.  Ishmael El-Amin scored 18 off the bench.  The offense from Hopkins wasn't as crisp as we've seen in recent games.  With Eden Prairie's loss, Friday's game at EP is still for the outright title for Hopkins with Eden Prairie being able to steal a share.  With a win, maybe EP could sneak into the top seed in 6AAAA.  But remember, 3 of the 5 losses were right after Amir Coffey was injured and all against high level teams.  The loss snaps a 16 game winning streak for Hopkins.

Valpo all over again
Hopkins went Valpo at the end.  Shooters wide at half court, Eric Davis at the far foul line and John Warren under the rim.  Cross the shooters, Davis sprints to halfcourt, Warren sprints to the top of the key and can feed either way.  Simple but effective.

Cadets spoil Spartans senior night

Prologue
No team counter, no location counter, no beverage counter.  That's a quiet night.  Then again maybe not, its off to St. Paul Academy for their senior night game against #6AAA St. Thomas Academy.  Small crowd early but we get plenty full by game time.  Mike Sjoberg still not coaching for St. Thomas due to health issues.  St. Mary's out and about working for players.  De La Salle, Minnehaha, and Concordia just a few of the head coaches in attendance.  Thanks to Dave Thorson for not completely tearing me apart for the MoKiller timeout reference in Saturday's game.

Game Time:
St. Thomas Academy can't find their offense early.  Dalante Peyton can find his for a pair of 3s and then a nice backcut for a bunny at the 12:15 mark.  10-2 SPA in early control.  The Cadets finally settle down with Kai Endahl powering for a 3 point play, Andrew Mayleben on the drive and a pretty backcut for a 2 handed dunk from Ryan Jacobsen.  After an SPA timeout, its Endahl with back to back 3s to end a 16-4 Cadets run.  St Thomas takes the lead 17-14 thanks to that run.  SPA would regain the lead 20-19 but the Cadets would score the last 7 of the half.  26-20 St. Thomas Academy leading going to the half.  Peyton nothing after that quick start.

Jake Wright with a 3 and a 3 from Mayleben to stretch the lead to 35-26 with 12:18 left.  Cadets slow the pace by switching to a 2-3 zone.  Peyton cuts to the right corner and buries a 3 and Kent Hanson turns a turnover into points.  That cuts the lead to 4.  St.  Thomas responds with a 9-2 run out of a timeout.  Jake Wright with another 3 and Endahl scoring in the post during that run.  The Spartans still fighting back.  Peyton with a steal for a 3 point play and Abdul Osman scores in the post.  Lead down to 6.

Then a loose rebound, Peyton tips it away from the defender and towards his basket.  He runs it down and turns it into a hoop.  Then he's fouled on a 3 with 1:23 left and makes all 3.  50-47 St. Thomas Academy hanging on.  Spartans go run and jump and its a Peyton steal and Mayleben with the hard intentional foul with 1:08 left.  During Peyton's 1st free throw (a miss) an SPA fan screams about the foul being dirty.  Aye yai yai.  SPA gets the ball but Peyton can't convert a chance to tie.  Mayleben with 1 of 2 on the other end getting booed.  The teams trade turnovers.  SPA takes time with 22.5 down 3 going full court.  There's no good look so they'll take another timeout in the front court with 5.4 left.  Peyton's contested look is no good.  Kent Hanson's putback at the buzzer is meaningless.  St. Thomas Academy wins 51-50

Post Game
St. Paul Academy falls to 15-9 overall and breaks an 8 game winning streak.  They can be part of a 3 way tie for the 1st IMAC title with a win at Mounds Park Academy tomorrow to finish 8-2 in league play.  They end with a section contest at New Life on Friday.  Dalante Peyton with 13 of his 21 in the 2nd half.  Kent Hanson 11 of his 13 in the 2nd half.  Only 16 points from the rest of the roster and that will be a tournament problem if they can't find a consistent 3rd option.  SPA in a real battle with Minnehaha and Concordia for the 3-5 slots in section 4AA.   SPA and Minnehaha right next to each other in the CzarPI before tonight's games and Concordia not far behing.  Concordia and SPA with identical 15-9 records right now but Concordia has a 1 point home win over the Spartans.  SPA beat Minnehaha by 23 at home earlier this this month.

Andrew Mayleben leads St. Thomas Academy with 17 points.  Kai Endahl with 11.  Not a pretty win but they grind it out and hang on.  The Cadets are 16-8 overall.  With their strength of schedule and a win over Tartan (something Hill-Murray and Simley don't yet have), they should have the inside track on the 2 seed. But 2 Simley wins this week (Tartan, at Hill-Murray) combined with last Friday's win over the Cadets would give them a very compelling case for the 2 seed.  The loser of that Friday game at Hill-Murray is most likely the 4 seed, something these 3 teams want to avoid.  But the idea of Marshawn Wilson vs Johnson in the semis does get my attention.

Private School Bragging Rights

Prologue
Valentine's Day brings us a day full of private school showcases.  First its the MCAA tournament championships at Maranatha.  Only appropriate to be a setting with the colors of the day, red and white, in full display.  Then off to the island for the big showdown between De La Salle and Cretin-Derham Hall.

Private Eyes - Hall and Oates

Game 1: New Life vs Legacy (MCAA Tournament 3rd Place Game)
Legacy with 2 quick 3s countered by a nice inside/out play to Conrad Engstrom for a 3.  7-6 New Life at the 14 minute mark.  But New Life wouldn't score another field for over 12 minutes.  Meanwhile Legacy knocks down 4 more bombs as they go on a 16-6 run during that Eagles drought.  Engstrom breaks that drought with a 4 point play for the last points of the half.  25-18 Legacy at the break.  New Life would cut the margin to 4 on a couple of occasions before Legacy responses.  Then its Engstrom with a bucket and foul with 4:23.  He misses the free throw that could have cut the margin to 1.  Then a Legacy layup and they put back their own missed free throw for a 3 point play.  That extends the lead back to 8 just 34 seconds later.  Engstrom tries to overcome that with as he scores the next 9 Eagles points.  Then an Eagles 3 cuts the the lead to 3 with 14 seconds left.  But 1 Legacy free throw seals it.  62-58 Legacy hangs on.  Engstrom goes for at least 27 plus whatever he had in the 1st 2 minutes of the 2nd half when I was too busy finishing off some greasy pizza.

Game 2: SW Christian at #3A Maranatha (MCAA Tournament 1st Place Game)
SW Christian coach Kit Avery getting right into warmups with his guys.  He was a big time player for the Stars with 2226 career points.  Still looks like he could go for 40.  MCA misses some good looks against the effective 1-2-2 matchup.  7-0 MCA run with a Damario Armstrong 3 to end it makes it look like MCA will take control but SWC doesn't go away.  Soph Kyle Meinke goes spin cycle  and adds a 3 to cut the lead to 1.  Armstrong with another 3 and a pair of late free throws from Cam Monson give MCA a 28-22 halftime lead.   Jack Jenson with a transition 3 to cut the MCA lead to 3.  Then its an 18-4 Marantha run for a 48-31 lead with about 10 minutes left.  SW Christian would cut that to 12.  But they eventually fall 71-57 as I miss the rest to make sure I get a seat on the island.  Jeremiah Hanson with 18 of his 28 in the 2nd half.  Jack Jenson with 16 of his 22 in the 2nd half for SW Christian.

Game 3: #6AAAA Cretin-Derham Hall at #1AAA De La Salle
I do make the island before they close the doors. Rumor mill is that former Iowa Hawkeye Brad Lohaus got there late and was denied entry.  He was coming to scout for the big De La Salle at Iowa City West game next Saturday.  Unlike last year's 36-3 crash landing at home to start, CDH gets off to a great start with Joe Rosga hitting a jumper and running for a layup.  9-4 CDH 6 minutes in.  Sacar Anim with a steal and dunk then he flexes for a weak technical.  Then its another Anim steal and another dunk, this one a simply NASTY on the break.  16-14 CDH and they take time to quiet the momentum.  Sam Neumann with a putback for a 3 point play and a tough 2 from Donnell Gresham to push the lead to 7.  Then an 8-0 CDH run to end the half.  35-22 Raiders at the half.  DLS not getting back in transition with Rosga finishing the run with a pretty reverse layup on the break.

DLS with a pair of hoops from Goanar Mar and Anim puts back a miss off a turnover to cut the lead to 7 with just over 13 to play.  Sam Neumann with a 3 and tips in a miss to push the lead back to 12.  Then DLS on the break and a late delivery causes the layup to be blocked.  CDH back the other way and its a 3 point play for Neumann.  Backbreaker to push the lead to 15 and its a DLS timeout with Dave Thorson not at all happy with his guys.  DLS appears to respond with Anim and Jarvis Johnson attacking the rim for hoops.  Then a MoKiller timeout from De La Salle?  Anim runs for a layup and the lead is down to 9 but before you can blink its Rosga laying it on the other end.  Anim another steal and dunk to cut the lead to 8.  Another CDH  timeout to stop momentum after a dunk. Well managed by Jerry Kline.

Donnell Gresham picks up his 4th with 7:50 left.  Frosh Gabe Kalscheur getting important minutes down the stretch.  His 3 cuts the lead to 5 with 7:30 to go.  But CDH doesn't fold.  Rosga with his own 3 and another jumper.  Then he finds Jordan Ammons for a double clutch layup.  The lead is 10 with 5:30 left.  A little bit of jawing between the coaches cause an official to stop play and call both coaches to the scorers table for a chewing.  Cretin-Derham Hall goes on to win 77-65.  Sam Neumann leads all scorers with 24, Joe Rosga adds 20 and Donnell Gresham 15.  Sacar Anim leads DLS with 22.  Jarvis Johnson 13 but struggled from the foul line.  CDH now 17-1 over the last 2 months (only loss was to Hopkins) and looking like the state contender we thought they'd be coming into the season.  They close with East Ridge and Roseville at home with a chance to lock up the Suburban East.  They look to be the #2 seed in 3AAAA behind Apple Valley.  Write down that potential section final rematch on Thursday March 5th.  De La Salle now 19-3 and still the heavy favorite to win class AAA.

Wolves prey on the Pumas

Prologue
Its a late season trip to the Colin Powell Center to see section 4A foes Cristo Rey and Minnesota Transitions.  We're playing on court 1 with the old fashioned metal bleachers and only the score on the scoreboard.  No fouls, no possession arrow, no scoring etc.  I smuggle in some A&W Root Beer for the evening.  That keeps the beverage counter happy.

Game Time:
Quick pace before MTS tries to break the game open.  Seth Cupersmith with 3 straight steals that lead to layups.  Isaiah Wade with a pair of hoops.  Another turnover for a 3 point play by Zach Adams and he finishes the run with a 3.  21-5 is the run to put the Wolves up 27-9 at the 11 minute mark.  Then a bad intentional foul call and a later T on Transitions.  Davonte Smith with 9 points in the 16-3 Cristo Rey run.  37-34 MTS at the 2:50 mark.  MTS would respond with a 11-3 to end the half, 6 of those by Adams.  48-37 MTS at half.

The run for the Wolves continues with the 1st 6 of the 2nd half.  Back to back turnovers for hoops end that run.  Smith with a 3 to keep the Pumas within 17 with 14:15 left.  Then it gets way out of hand as guard Lewis McCaleb heats up.  1 bounce and he'll bang home the jumper, 2 free throws off a turnover, back to back 3s and 2 free throws on a Cristo Rey technical  He'll add another 3 for good measure to close out the 19-2 MTS run. 82-48 MTS with 11 minutes left.  Most of the rest of the way its running time with plenty of free throws.  MTS wins 96-59.

Post Game
Davonte Smith with 24 to lead Cristo Rey.  Jericho Sims 15 points on my sheet and hit some tough jumpers with his flat shot.  Turnovers were the downfall.  They up a truckload of easy hoops on live ball turnovers and that's no way to win. Cristo Rey falls to 12-9 with the loss. The Pumas are in that 3rd tier of teams in section 4A with Heritage and CHOF so I'm thinking 7 seed give or take 1.  The rest of the schedule is super full the next 10 days.

MTS continues their better than expected season as they improve to 19-5.  They have 2 very winnable games left against Trinity and Bethany.  Isaiah Wade with another double double.  I had him for 19 points and pretty sure he had double digit boards.  Lewis McCaleb went off in the big 2nd half run on his way to 24 points.  Zach Adams 14 of his 18 in the 1st half.  Wade showed nice versatility being able to step out and make a jumper in addition to being active on the glass.  MTS in the 2nd tier of teams in section 4A with Legacy and SW Christian.  They beat Legacy and lost a tough one to SW Christian.  Despite the head-head win, it was a close game and the strength of schedules are actually about even.  MTS has a win over Columbia Heights which SW Christian can't really match.  I would give MTS the 3 seed, SW Christian 4 and Legacy 5.  But you have the MCAA voting block, don't be shocked to see MTS at 4.

Washburn survives a south side test

Prologue
Its a Minneapolis City Conference matchup as #7AAA Washburn vists South.  Remember South knocked off league champ North last week.  They also knocked off Washburn 75-74 in the 1st meeting.  A bottle of Sprite for the beverage counter.  D3 represented well with The Coolest Guy in the MIAC, Bethany Lutheran, Hamline and Augsburg all in attendance.  And in honor of Jason Nickleby being hired as the new Director of Offiicals for the MSHSL (great hire), I give you a new referee nickname.  Terry Tate Office Linebacker working tonight.

Game Time:
Washburn off to a great start with 7 points from JoBreil Powell.  13-3 Millers at the 14:32 mark.  South would reply with a 9-0 run of their own.  From that point we're pretty even the rest of the half.  Washburn by 5 before Taron Myers puts back a miss and then pulls up on the break and banks in a straight away 3.  Then a Myers steal and he'll pull it up again and bang.  10-2 South run for a 28-25 lead at the  6:45 mark.  Derrick Williams fouled and makes all 3 free throws just before the halftime buzzer for a 38-35 South lead at half.

Then 2 quick South hoops to open the half.  Washburn looks shaky before Powell banks in a 3 off a ball screen.  Williams 4 straight to push the lead to 7, then Myers with another pullup 3 in transition and he runs for a layup.  Payton Bowdry adds a 3 for a 58-48 South lead with 10 to play.  Evan Shepherd with a hoop and pair of free throws but its still South up 63-56 inside of 3 to play.  Washburn has 1 last burst in them. 

Kevin Gleason with a steal for 2, then South charges and misses a front end.  Powell puts back a miss for a 3 point play with 1:39 left. Then Powell again (I think) after another South turnover.  That ties it at 63 with 1:20 left.  South kicks it away again and once again its Powell with 49.2 left.  South another turnover with 41 seconds.  Then Washburn can't hang on to the ball either.  They promptly throw it away on their possession after a timeout.  South makes 1 free throw with 23.7 left.  Washburn turns it over again, South misses and we have a jump ball.  It goes to South with 14.6 left.  South 2 good chances that don't go down.  Ball out of bounds to the Tigers for 1 last chance with 3.9 left.  On the inbounds pass, the feet go right out from under the receiver and its a turnover.  What a terrible break though the look would have been tough.  Washburn goes on to win 67-64.

Post Game:
South falls to 5-6 in the Minneapolis City and 10-13 overall.  They'll finish the season with 3 more games at home.  Minnehaha on Saturday, Henry on Tuesday and Edina next Thursday.  Payton Bowdry with 18 to lead the Tigers.  Derrick Williams and Taron Myers with 13 each.  Michael Harris adds 11.  Very small South lineup but they were active.  This is one they'll want back.  5 turnovers and 3 of 4 missed free throws in the last 2:30.  Everything was in place, just didn't close it out.  The Tigers still fighting St. Louis Park for the 6 seed in 6AAAA.

Washburn gets 20 from JoBreil Powell and he came up huge late.  Evan Shepherd with 15, Kevin Gleason with 10.  It wasn't pretty as the Millers missed a bunch of bunnies but they made a big run to steal one.  Washburn now 8-4 for 3rd in the Minneapolis City and 17-8 overall.  They've won 6 in a row and finish the regular season on Tuesday against Carlton.  I'd be very surprised if Washburn isn't the 1 seed in 6AAA, especially with the 27 point win over Waconia.

Falcons rebound against Osseo

Prologue
Off to Armstrong for a NW Suburban game vs Osseo.  These teams sitting 1st and 3rd in the West Division.  Armstrong needing a win to keep pace with Maple Grove in that top spot.  Osseo would fall out of any chance for 2nd with a loss.  Quality Jet's Pizza and an appearance from the Armstrong band.  Then the always unique 16.9 oz bottle of Red Gatorade to go with it.

Game Time:
Center Kameron Bettie out of the lineup for Osseo.  He had 22 points in the first meeting.  Armstrong jumps out to a 10-3 lead with 6 points from Sean Burns.  Osseo would respond with their own 10-3 run thanks to 3s from Charlie Hohenstein and Elliot Kane.  Jubie Alade with a steal and hoop that starts a 7-0 run.  Burns finishes that run with a 3 point play.  He scores again to push the lead to 11 before an Allen Anderson 3 ends the half.  33-25 Armstrong at the half.

Mar Mar Hughes with a 3 and a hoop to start the 2nd half as Osseo closes to within 35-30.  But an Osseo timeout may have killed their momentum as they go ice cold.  Alade for 3 and 2 free throws on a putback.  Evan Nolan with a pair of 3s.  Frosh Race Thompson scores off a turnover and puts back a miss for 2 more.  Vennie Williams back to back hoops.  Race Thompson in the post and True Thompson with a 3 point play.  Osseo goes almost 7 minutes without a hoop and only 2 hoops in 10 minutes.  The Armstrong run totals 26-5 in just under 9 minutes.  61-35 Armstrong with 7:21 left before frosh Zach Theisen breaks that run with a 3.  Armstrong's bench is a bit sloppy at the end but the outcome is never in doubt.  Armstrong wins 69-54.

Post Game:
Osseo falls to 12-5 in the NW Suburban and will finish 3rd in the West Division.  They are 13-10 overall.  Elliot Kane with 3 triples on his way to 17 points.  Mar Mar Hughes with 9 of his 11 in the 2nd half.  No one else more than 6.  Tough for the Orioles to generate offense.  As to section play, they're looking at the 4/5 game vs Centennial.  Centennial's power ranking is better but Osseo won the head-head meeting at Centennial.  I'd give them the home game even if they are 1 game back. They host Totino-Grace on Tuesday before going across the parking lot to play Maple Grove in the season finale.

Armstrong recovers from losing 3 out of 4 and gets back on the winning track.  They are 18-5 overall and 14-2 in the league.  They are still tied on top of the West with Maple Grove.  They host the Crimson on Tuesday with the outright division title in the balance.  Sean Burns leads the Falcons with all 15 of his points in the 1st half.  Evan Nolan adds a pair of 3 on his way to 12 points. Jubie Alade with 11 and frosh Race Thompson with 10 bench points. Jerome Dixon held to 5.  As to section seeding, I see the Falcons fighting with Edina for the 4 vs 5 home game in the crazy loaded section 6AAAA.

Raiders ravage the Raptors

Prologue
Its a Suburban East showdown as #9AAAA Roseville hosts #7AAAA East Ridge.  The teams come into the night tied for 2nd in the conference 1 game behind Cretin-Derham Hall.  Both visit CDH next week so this was a must win for any conference title hopes.  No food but the beverage counter is happy with a bottle of Sprite.  Minnesota-Duluth and the Coolest Guy In The NSIC in the house.  Augsburg looking on from the MIAC.  Roseville going with black and white striped warmup pants and had them tucked into their socks.  A very jail house look with the black warmup tops.  I think I can find a tune for that.

Game Time:
The game basically even for the 1st 4 minutes.  Mitch Poss for 3 and Kobe Critchley gets the kind bounce on an NBA 3.  Sid Tomes with a jumper and a pair of free throws.  11-8 Roseville at the 14:36 mark.  Then the Raptors wings fall off.  Poss off the inbounds for 3 and another bomb.  Then he flares out the Swing Offense for his 4th bomb  Chris Spandino off the bench with 2 Roseville hoops.  Poss to the left hand for 2 and then his 5th triple.  Poss with 14 points and 4 bombs in the 24-5 Roseville run over 8 minutes.  35-13 Roseville running away with 6 minutes to go in the 1st half.  Sid Tomes doing his thing but getting no help.  51-27 Roseville at the half. 

Kobe Critchley 3 straight hoops, Poss again off the BLOB for 2.  Then East Ridge turnovers for a Jesper Horsted dunk and a Quinn Johnson layup to expand the lead to 35.  On the last turnover, the ball hits the official and stays in play.  A couple of other rebounds bounce around and end up in Raiders hands for bunnies.  That kind of night for East Ridge as almost nothing goes right.  84-42 when we get to the 8:55 mark on an Evan Jones 3.  The benches empty a couple of minutes later.  Roseville wins 89-49.

Post Game
Sid Tomes scored 29 points to lead East Ridge.  He did plenty of damage inside against the smaller Roseville guards.  But no help to be found as nobody else scores more than 6.  No energy, no good bounces, no shots going in, defense not there.  One of those burn the videotape games.  The Raptors are now 19-4 overall and 10-3 and 3rd place in the Suburban East.  The loss breaks a 6 game winning streak.  This does ruin their conference title hopes.  They likely would have been the 2 seed in 3AAAA with a win tonight and a win at CDH next week to win the league.  Now I don't see them getting above 3 even with a win at CDH next week.   Even with Eastview's loss tonight, East Ridge still has a chance to fall to 4.   The Raptors host White Bear Lake on Thursday before finishing up at CDH and home with Stillwater next week.

Roseville wins their 8th straight and 10 of 11 (CDH only loss) to keep their conference title hopes alive.  The Raiders are now 11-2 in the Suburban East (1 game back of CDH) and 19-4 overall.  Mitch Poss continues to make a ton of shots.  He knocks down 6 triples tonight on his way to 26 points.  Kobe Critchley adds 20 and Jesper Horsted scores 17.  Critchley had 3 or 4 tough shots go in as another sign that this night was going Roseville's way.  A couple of winnable games before closing it out at CDH next Friday.  That game will almost certainly be for the conference title in some shape or form.  Roseville is pretty locked into the 1 seed in a very competitive section 4AAAA.  But behind them you have 4 teams who will all be tough outs (all have at least 14 wins).  In both sections, expect a pair of outstanding semifinal games.
