A president, a rivalry and a road trip at home

A fun weekend of hoops on the St. Paul side of the metro (excluding the miserable walk to Concordia on Thursday).  Plenty of cola on the menu with Pepsi at Como Park and a double dose of battery acid and pizza at North St. Paul.  A doubleheader so why not eat twice.  After all with the JV game it is an all day adventure.  Then back to Dacha De Czar to watch the final pair of games from my hometown event, the Midwest Players Classic.  The metro as always is represented and they get the nightcap so some thoughts on that as well.

Friday:  St. Paul Como Park 65 St. Paul Harding 46
Since we have a presidential school (Harding) represented, I'll pick a presidential debate to sum this game up.   In fact, like Saturday Night Live, I'll do it in 1 word.  Strategery.  Or you could pick Lockbox if you wanted.  Como Park with a great strategic move to go box and 1 on Harding PG Jovan Christian.  On a catch or ball screen they would trap out of it (a variation I absolutely love).  Then they went simple man and just faceguarded him in the 2nd half.  That locked Christian up holding him to 8 points on the night.  None in the 2nd half.  All of those were on mental breakdowns in the scheme.  But without Christian on the floor Harding fell apart.  A 1 point game becomes 7 when Christian sits early in the half.  A 9 point game inside of 5 minutes and Christian doesn't return and the game gets really out of hand.  Devonte Bolton with 11 points off the Harding bench to lead the Knights.  Donn Ward with 14 to lead Como Park.  Donzello Barros with 3 triples and 13 points.  Timitrius Simmons with 11 points off the Cougars bench.  Harding will need to come up with an answer for that Christian denial option as they really struggled without him being a factor.

Saturday Game 1: North St. Paul 76 Tartan 72
Full house on hand for this one along with the Polars band for a proper rivalry atmosphere.  This one was a battle the entire way as no team held a double digit lead.  Goodnews Kpegeol picks up 2 quick fouls and sits for about 8 minutes of the first half.  That helps Tartan build a 21-13 lead.  The Titans side ball screen offensive look really grinding things to a halt.  Dajuan Carter would bring the Polars back.  But Antawn Kimmons with the answers for a 33-29 Tartan lead at the break.

The 2nd half is the Kimmons vs Kpegeol show.  Kpegeol scores 9 straight Polars points as North reclaims the lead 40-38.  Kimmons then scores 9 straight Tartan points as the Titans take a 51-50 lead.  Then a critical stretch with the Polars scoring 8 of the next 9 for a 58-52 lead.  Post Yao Dumenya cold off the bench with a big 3 during that run.  Then Kpegeol with 6 in a row and then a kickout to soph forward Brenden Lankford-Johnson for a crushing 3 with 2:45 left.  That puts North St. Paul up 65-60.  That was the answer to a couple of Kimmons hoops.  After a couple of missed free throws, Brady Hartman buries a 3 with 3.5 left to pull Tartan within 1.  Tartan gets 1 last chance down 3 but throws the pass away.  A free throw seals the final margin.  Antawn Kimmons with 23 of his 38 in the 2nd half for Tartan to lead all scorers.  That included 16-19 from the charity stripe as he got to the lane at will.  Brady Hartman with a couple of 3s and 11 points.  Andre Jenkins-Whitmore adds 10 for the Titans.   North St. Paul's size was a problem for Tartan on the glass.  Tartan rightfully lets Antawn Kimmons carry the offense but he'll need more help.  Goodnews Kpegeol had to sit a big chunk of the 1st half with foul trouble.  He scored 6 quick points before that and then 17 in the 2nd half plus a critical assist to lead the Polars.  Dajuan Carter with 14 points off the North St. Paul bench and some critical offense late in the 1st half.  He'll get and take a ton of shots next year.  Bryce Phillips with 12 including the final free throws.  Cahlil Golden with 10.

Saturday Game 2: La Crosse Central 57 Woodbury 51
So missing the Big Boar BBQ at the La Crosse Center as part of the Midwest Players Classic.  This is the once beaten and 4th ranked in D2 defending state champion (and Czar's alma mater) La Crosse Central Red Raiders taking on Woodbury.  A snoozefest of a 1st half.  Woodbury goes 2-3 zone the entire way and Central has no plan.  Central goes diamond and 1 all half and Woodbury has no plan.  Michael Jones 1 FG in the half.  Central star soph Johnny Davis (WI offer) with only 2 FG.  Both held to 6 points in the half.  DJ Fleming stepping up with 10 of the 1st 16 Woodbury points.  23-22 Central at the break.  Woodbury with only 1 field goal for about the 9 minutes of the half.

Drew Bramlett off the Woodbury bench with a pair of critical triples.  That puts the Royals up 38-34 with 11:10 left.  Then an away from the play double foul with the ball way out around halfcourt.  That's the 4th foul on Michael Jones with about 9 minutes left.  That will send him to the bench.  UNLV offered Terrance Thompson with 2 putbacks and that puts Central up 44-41 with 6:43 left.  Its part of a 9-0 run.  Jones returns and gets Woodbury back to even at 46 inside of 5 minutes left with 5 in a row.  Central scores, Woodbury misses and Central spreads for a layup with 1:20 left to go up 4.  Its free throws from there.  Central hangs on.  Johnny Davis with 12 points for Central.  DJ Fleming with 4 triples and 18 points to lead Woodbury.  Michael Jones with 16 points, 7-7 FTs with 1 3.

The bright lights of 4AA

Prologue
Dashing thru the snow, drifts up to my waist.  Uphill into the wind, freezing all the way.  Its a cold and snowy trip to Concordia to see the Beacons take on Cristo Rey in a 4AA section battle.  The Pumas stepping out of TCAC play for a challenge.  Concordia trying to separate themselves from a jumbled pack in the middle of the section.  Another venue with 1/4 lb hot dogs,  there's incentive for me to appear more often.  More Red Gatorade to go with it.  Kevin Hart and the 3 man crew get both the JV and varsity games.  A very different but very satisfying music mix on the speakers tonight.  From that we get this tune.

Game Time:
An early 7-0 run for Concordia puts them up 12-8.  After 5 in a row from Cristo Rey allows the Pumas to reclaim the lead, the Beacons score the next 10.  James Sommer with a triple and bucket to break those 2 runs.  Franklin Doyle with a triple and a free throw and that keeps Cristo Rey with 25-20 at the 6:35 mark.  But the rest of the half is a wreck for the Pumas.  Concordia finishes the half on a 24-2 run.  That starts with 14 in a row and finishes with the last 10 of the half.  Only 2 field goals in the last 10:40.  Barnabas Preble and Essay Hagos with triples in the last minute.  That sends the Beacons to the locker room with a 49-22 lead.  13-5 foul differential in favor of Concordia during the half.  That forced a bunch of lineup manipulations. 

The teams slowly go back and forth and its still 57-30 game with 12 minutes left.  Snooze fest.  But then again maybe not.  Concordia goes something like 10 straight possessions with a turnover and couldn't even get into any offense let alone get a shot up.  That was thanks to Cristo Rey throwing all caution to the wind and trapping everywhere make or miss.  Franklin Doyle with 2 triples around 2 Victory George layups via turnovers.  Shots start falling for the Pumas too.  Derek Burgess off the bench for 3..  Doyle and George convert more turnovers.  The Cristo Rey run is 17-0 in 3 minutes and all of a sudden we have a game again.

Cristo Rey would have a chance to cut it to 8 but not convert.  Sommer fouls out and Derek Burgess hits another 3 to keep the Pumas within 62-52 with 6:15 left.  But Gavin Harbo will put the game out of reach for Concordia.  He makes 4 free throws and assists on 2 layups to start a run.  The Beacons add 2 putbacks and convert a turnover.  That run is 16-3 and puts the game out of reach with 2:30 left.  Concordia wins 84-64.

Post Game
Cristo Rey falls to 8-2 and loses their second game in a row.  Victory George leads the way with 15 points.  James Sommer with 13 before fouling out.  Franklin Doyle adds 3 triples and 12 points.  Good move by coach Clay to go small without center John Williams in the 2nd half and really pick up the pressure.  The fouls in the 1st half may have prevented him from going to it earlier.  The TCAC schedule may rack up wins but not many quality wins.  This loss has the potential to knock the Pumas down a notch later.  Will be interesting to see.  Its a busy time on the schedule too.  International School comes calling tomorrow and then they play Minneapolis Henry in the MLK Classic at Totino-Grace on Monday.

Concordia improves to 8-5 overall.  5 of their 6 scorers were in double figures so great balance.  Forward Barnabas Preble leads the way with 24 points.  Senior guard Gavin Harbo with 22 points and some big assists.  5 of the 7 players in the rotation are back next year, Harbo being the biggest loss.  They'll definitely need to find a way to handle pressure when more athletic clubs come after them.  This win definitely gives Concordia a notable section victory.  They are back in Tri-Metro play next week with a tough trip to St. Croix Lutheran and a visit from St. Agnes.

The Tri-metro wars begin

Prologue
The Tri-Metro season kicks off in Brooklyn Center with a big west division game between the #5AA Centaurs and #4AAA Columbia Heights.  Yes it brings back memories of the old Metro Alliance.  The Old Spice guy on duty.  An absolute zoo of a crowd but I manage to weave my way through it for sausage pizza and Dr. Pepper.  We also get the Brooklyn Center cheerleaders and a surprise appearance from the pep band.  They dug out a bunch of classics.  25 or 6 to 4, Poker Face and Don't Stop Believing on the set list.  But it was this classic that gets tonight's tune.

Game Time:
The start of the half is the difference in the half.  Christian Kelly and Quentin Hardrict score off turnovers.  Deundra Roberson with a nice pull up and then a triple.  That's a 9-2 start for Columbia Heights.  Columbia Heights dominating the glass early in the game.  Columbia Heights keeping the pace reasonable with their flat 3-2 zone.  That held the Centaurs to 1-13 from 3 in the 1st half.  Wendell Matthews effective on post touches as well.  32-23 Heights at the half.

Good start to the 2nd half for Brooklyn Center.  Lu'Cye Patterson with a couple of tough hoops in an 8-1 run to start the half.  That cuts the Hylanders lead to 33-31 just before 3 minutes into the half.  Heights counters with a banked Bryan Mayfield 3 to start a 8-0 run and the lead is back to 10.  Roland Russ doing nice dirty work inside with 2 hoops plus a 3 point play.  Patterson with a difficult spin and finish and the lead is down to 6 with 10 minutes left.

Hardrict jumper, Matthews in the post for 2 and the lead is 11.  Then Matthews with 4 free throws and a lob finish around a Rudy Tahir triple.  60-50 Heights inside 5 minutes left.  Then a Centaur missed front end and 2 more freebies missed.  Matthews with a pair of 3 point plays and another hoop as the lead grows to 17 with 2 minutes left.  Heights very sloppy turning it over late but the end result is not in danger.  Columbia Heights wins 81-70.  But the final doesn't really do the game justice.

Post Game
For Brooklyn Center, Lu'Cye Patterson leads the way with 23 points.  3 other starters also in double figures with Rudy Tahir scoring 14.  The game was a slower pace than Brooklyn Center would have liked.  Once again the interior play was too much for the Centaurs to stop.  Brooklyn Center falls to 8-3 overall and 0-1 in the Tri-Metro.  This game begins a brutally tough 5 game stretch of the schedule over these 2 weeks.  They play Esko on Saturday in the Breakdown MLK classic in Duluth.  Then league games vs #1AAA De La Salle and at St. Croix Lutheran next week.  They end the stretch a week from Saturday against a tough St. Paul Central squad.

Wendell Matthews leads Columbia Heights with 19 of his 25 in the 2nd half.  But with a lack of touches and difficulty finishing at the basket to start the 2nd half, he could have had 40.  I was surprised they didn't go to him even more as there was little resistance inside.  Quentin Hardrict with a very solid 15 points.  You can really see the difference he makes running the show.  Christian Kelly with 13, Deundra Roberson with 11.  Columbia Heights remains undefeated at 10-0 and now 1-0 in the Tri-Metro.  They have 3 winnable games coming up but don't overlook a trip to Fridley next Friday.  Two major tests lurk at the end of the month against Hopkins (at Trinity) and hosting St. Croix Lutheran.  That's just the start of a tough back half of the schedule.

Huskies Bite Kennedy at Buzzer

Prologue
To Bloomington Kennedy to see the Eagles host St. Anthony.  Interesting non-conference matchup.  The new bleachers and redone floor definitely help the atmosphere.  But its still one of my least favorite buildings out there.  We're back to normal concessions with a hot dog.  No Sprite tonight as I resort to fruit punch Gatorade.  Minnehaha AD Josh Thurow with the white hat duty tonight for the officiating crew.

Game Time:
St. Anthony once again playing without shooter Aaron Smith.  He's still out due to an injury suffered in the South St. Paul championship game.  The early pace is to St. Anthony's liking.  But Kennedy takes a 10-7 lead thanks to a layup out of the THE WORST VERSION OF THE WORLD'S WORST OFFENSE.  Coach Jamin Cook going with the screen and pop version of the flex.  Drew Nelson a pair of triples and St. Anthony goes up 17-13 at the midway point of the half.  Kennedy quick fouls put the Huskies in the bonus in the half but no real advantage gained.  The teams trade 3s at the 6 minute mark.  22-21 St. Anthony with the lead.  Then another Drew Nelson 3 and Sullivan Jahnke converts 2 dropoffs for layups.  Tait Nelson fouled at the buzzer for 1 of 3 free throws.  The 8-0 run puts the Huskies up 31-25 at the break.

Kennedy turns up the full court pressure in the 2nd half.  That leads to 6 turnovers in the 1st 4 minutes.  St. Anthony finding it very hard to generate any offense.  Markel Aune 2 bombs and a free throw to put Kennedy up 34-33 after those 4 minutes.  Tait Nelson with a nice spin and he turns that into a 3 point play.  39-38 St. Anthony with 8:49 left.  Then 6 in a row from Kennedy thanks to 2 hoops and 2 free throws from Isaac Coutier.  Isaiah Stone converts a turnover inbetween that.  45-39 Kennedy with 6:30 to play.

St. Anthony rallies with Tait Nelson making bonus free throws and then finding Jahnke for a 3 point play.  That ties the game at 44 with 4:39 left.  Markel Aune drives and scores and then a steal for 2 more.  Kennedy by 4 with 3:05 left.  Mickey Jah with a triple off a BLOB.  Then a couple Kennedy misses around a St. Anthony turnover.  Jah scores with 1:14 left and its 49-48 Huskies back on top.  Kennedy runs a set for Aune that is well defended.  He misses an open lane jumper but Kennedy gets it back with 32 ticks left.  He then hits the same fade from the foul line with 26 seconds left and Kennedy is back on top.  Timeout St. Anthony.

Its an elbow entry and flare screen for Tait Nelson.  He gets a great look at 3 but it goes in and out.  It ends up in Stone's hands and he's fouled with 8.2 left.  St. Anthony takes time and Stone misses the front end.  Jah will push it back the other way hard.  He finds Jahnke for a wide open layup but Stone comes from nowhere and swats it out of bounds with 0.5 seconds left. One last timeout for the Huskies.  They run a screen and roll back that is defended.  But Jah's defender leaves him alone in the backside corner.  He catches and calmly buries the 3 at the buzzer.  St. Anthony wins 52-50.

Post Game
For Bloomington Kennedy, Markel Aune scores 13 of his 23 in the 2nd half.  That included the last 6 Kennedy points.  Jaylen Williams and Isaac Coutier 7 points each.  I was surprised Kennedy didn't run even more of THE WORLD'S WORST OFFENSE.  I thought it was the most effective stuff they ran all night (yes it kills me to say that knowing how much I despise it).  While they did get switches for post mismatches out of their euro ball screen look, I didn't see it doing that much for them.  Kennedy falls to 3-7 overall but 6 of those losses are by 8 points or less.  That includes this buzzer beater, a 2 OT loss at  Mounds View and a 1 point loss to section foe St. Paul Harding.  The Eagles host Jordan on Thursday before kicking off Metro West play next week.

Mickey Jah's game winner gives him 16 points to lead St. Anthony.  He scored the last 8 Huskies points in the last 2:45 with a pair of clutch triples.  Tait Nelson adds 14 points.  Drew Nelson with all 3 triples and 9 points in the 1st half.  Jah had 4 2nd half field goals while the rest of the roster had 3 combined.  He also did a ton of ball handling vs the press.  That diamond press really caused St. Anthony problems in the 2nd half when Kennedy went to a smaller lineup.  The Huskies improve to 7-5 overall.  This one was after 2 losses by a combined 9 points.  The schedule helps with 6 of the next 7 at home but they aren't easy.  Mahtomedi, Fridley and Roosevelt all come calling in the next 2 weeks.

Play of the Day
Here's the game winner.  The lineup is both corners, ball side block and backside elbow.  Ballside block sets the diagonal screen for the backside elbow and then rolls back to the backside block looking for a layup.  Jah was set up in the backside corner and its his defender who often helps on the roll back.  In this case the defender was too far away and Jah made the Eagles pay.

Seeing Red in St. Paul

Its the 1st Saturday of the season without some local notable event.  So its a day of running around St. Paul.  First its a walking taco at Central with the always wonderful and hard to find A&W root beer.  Then hustling into St. Agnes for their section 4AA matchup with St. Paul Washington.  Thankfully no time to try to configure the mountaineering gear to ascend the bleachers.

Game 1: St. Paul Central 96 Henry Sibley 63
Sibley would get off to a solid start behind Malik Spearman.  He scores 8 points as Sibley opens as 14-10 lead.  Central counters with a 15-2 run.  Spearman adds a post bucket and a tip in to cut the lead to 4.  But the last 3 minutes of the first half are a disaster for Sibley as they give up a 18-3 run to close the half.  The second half is all Central.  Too much rebounding and too much Daveonte Davis for Central all day.  Davis ends up with 32 to lead the Minutemen.  The rest of the starting lineup knocks down 7 3s and all finish in double figures.  Malik Spearman very effective with 22 to lead Henry Sibley.  Rieshaun Satar with 21 but 17 of those and 5 triples in the 2nd half.

Game 2: St. Agnes 69 St. Paul Washington 61
A young group for Washington with 3 starting sophomores and an 8th grade reserve.  Only 2 seniors in the 8 man rotation.  Only 2 seniors in the St. Agnes rotation as well.  Washington would open a 17-12 lead midway thru the 1st half.  Then a 19-2 St. Agnes run for a response.  Marcus Johnson 6 points in that run. Washington replies with an 8-0 run and we're tied at 33 going to halftime.

The Aggies come out of the gate with a 13-4 run with 3 triples from Norman Strickland.  46-37 St. Agnes with 14:15 to play.  Marcus Johnson with 2 hoops and 2 free throws in an 8-0 run and all of a sudden the lead is 15.  56-41 St. Agnes with 8:20 left.  Washington trying to stay close with a pair of triples from forward Jackson Carver.  But too much Johnson and Strickland.  Strickland 3 free throws, Johnson bonus freebies and runs the floor for a layup plus another hoop.  That gets the lead back to 15 inside 4 minutes left.  St. Agnes out of danger from there.  Marcus Johnson leads St. Agnes with 31 points and surprisingly without a single 3.  19 of those points in the 2nd half.  Norman Strickland with 20 points, 12 of those in the 2nd half including 3 of his 4 threes.  Only 2 other Aggies buckets in the 2nd half as they carried the load.  Great discipline to close the game out.  Sophomore Kshui Harris-McCalister with 16 points to lead Washington.  He did that despite foul trouble which did lead to some St. Agnes momentum.  Fellow soph Zaveon Smith with 14.  Jackson Carver 3 triples and 11 points.

Late week blowouts

The end of the week brought me new teams but a set of blowouts.  Hot dogs and pizza on the schedule with Coke products.  Quiet crowds on hand for a couple of nights.  Only Kevin Hart working on Thursday night.  We sneak in the the top 5 matchup between the Sioux Falls Lincoln and Hopkins girls inbetween these.  But Hopkins steamrolled in that game too.

Thursday: St. Croix Lutheran 81 Richfield 46
Story here was St. Croix Lutheran's shooting.  6 different kids knock down triples.  The Crusaders make 18-27 3s in the game.  That was evenly balanced with 9 in each half. Devin Wade-Henderson in 1st half foul trouble.  He still leads Richfield with 11 points.  Adam Arroyo with 18 points to lead St. Croix Lutheran.  Freshman Xavier Garcia with 5 3s and 17 points in the 2nd half off the bench as the game got out of hand.  St. Croix Lutheran played without starting PG Aaron Jenniges and F Dorrell Bratton.  Frosh Zach Longueville very solid in place of Jenniges.

Friday: #2AAAA Hopkins 93 #1AA Sioux Falls Lincoln 59
Too much Hopkins from the get go.  Blaise Beauchamp 3 quick triples as Hopkins opens an 18-4 lead.  Lincoln star Diang Gatluak held to 0-7 FG shooting in the 1st half.  The Royals open up a 28 point half time lead.  Lincoln missed a bunch of inside opportunities.  Gatluak does get some offense in the 2nd half as Lincoln tries to keep it respectable.  But too much Hopkins in this one.  Blaise Beauchamp was hot from deep with 5 3s and scored 25 points.  Zeke Nnaji was a factor inside with 18 and rebounded well.  Anthony Davis and Dane Zimmer each add 12.  Hopkins once again very sloppy as they try to get the ball out and run.  Reckless heaves down court for turnovers still happening.  Diang Gatluck scores all 11 of his points in the 2nd half.  Along with 11 from Alex Glanzer, they lead the Patriots in scoring.  Jared Jaros with a pair of 3s and 10 points.

Eagles soar past the Polars

Prologue
To Minneapolis North for a showdown between the #2AA Polars and #4AAAA Eden Prairie.  This was after seeing a 44-40 nailbiter for Trinity at St. Paul Academy yesterday.  Not much to cover there so I'll leave just the score here.  The cold weather limiting the crowd size on both nights.  Hot dogs pre-wrapped and ready to go with the usual Sprite at North.  We get the Old Spice Guy and of course The Rev calling the game. 

Game Time:
Eden Prairie raining in 3s early from their group of sophomores Drake Dobbs, John Henry and Connor Christensen.  Fellow soph Austin Andrews adds a spin move for 2 plus 2 freebies.  Good start for the Eagles up 19-8 at 13:05.  Odell Wilson with all of the North offense to that point.  But the Polars would get a couple of 3s from Eli Campbell but another 3 from Christensen helps to keep the lead at 32-20 at the 7:25 mark.  But the North defense holds the Eagles without a field goal for over 6 minutes and a 13-0 run ensues.  Odell Wilson posting out of the Swing Offense for 2.  Back to back bombs for Nasir El-Amin and Trejuan Holloman.  A Taylor Johnson run out for a layup and Wilson spinning in the post for 2 more to put North on top.  Henry buries another 3 and that sends Eden Prairie to the locker room with a 35-34 lead.

Slow pace to start the 2nd half and offense hard to come by.  The clock sits at 42 all for over 4 minutes.  But its the Eden Prairie shooting that comes back to life.  Henry for 3, Kyler Kluge for 3 (the senior must have felt left out) and another Dobbs triple all in about a 90 second span.  That puts Eden Prairie up 9 with 8 minutes left.  North would try to rally from that.  Holloman with a nice cut for 2 and a Wilson offensive board for a 3 point play cuts it to 5 with 3:49 left.  Eden Prairie comes out of a timeout a minute later and tries a SLOB for Dobbs layup (more below).  That gets knocked away but on the BLOB Dobbs pops back and buries a dagger triple to push the lead to 8 with just over 2:30 to play.  North gets 1 last bucket but no more danger.  Eden Prairie with a quality road win 69-57.

Post Game
Odell Wilson leads North with 20 points.  He was once again a handful using his body inside.  Tayler Johnson with 11, Trejuan Holloman with 10.  I really liked Holloman's on ball defensive pressure. But they never really turned Eden Prairie over which was a huge key.  That helped to keep the pace manageable and not ideal for how North wants to play.  North did play without PG Zion Sanford.  North falls to 3-2 overall.  They will play next in the late game Saturday night at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls in the Samaritan's Feet Barefoot Classic vs #1A Tea (SD)

For Eden Prairie, they only played 6 players and started 4 sophomores so a bright future.  Forward Austin Andrews leads the Eagles with 24 points.  Drake Dobbs and John Henry each add 14.  Connor Christensen chips in with 12.  They combine for 9 of the 10 Eden Prairie 3s.  Very good poise from all the youngsters handling the North defense.  Eden Prairie improves to 8-1 overall and they have 3 section games on the schedule next.  That includes a dangerous Shakopee team in the 1st of those on Saturday afternoon.  That's before a brutal 3 week stretch starting in a couple of weeks where they have Hopkins, Woodbury, De La Salle and Delano at home followed by trips to East Ridge, Edina and Wayzata.  All of those teams have spent time in the state polls.  YIKES! 


Play of the Day
No full blown strategy session here, just the late game SLOB from Eden Prairie.  They also showed this earlier in the game.  Andrews on the ball side block, guard on the back side block.  Dobbs in the back of a stack at the top of the key.  Andrews screens away for the guard who clears to the ball side corner.  Andrews then immediately flashes back to the ball.  On his catch, Dobbs cuts backdoor to the now empty basket area.  Simple and effective.  You could even add the inbounder taking off for the rim as another option as he would be on the other side of the play.
