Deszi continues to make opponents dizzy

Prologue
Its a city showdown between Washburn and Roosevelt.  The winner jumps into a 3rd place tie with Henry.  The loser ends up 5th.  Big Zach leading the 3 man crew.  A late arrival means no concessions.  Section scouting in force for this one with Armstrong and St. Louis Park looking at Washburn.  Benilde-St. Margaret's looking at Roosevelt.

Game Time:
Washburn gets a pair of Jake Garrison 3s as they jump out to a 16-5 lead 7 minutes into the game.  Deszi Sims would get his offense going to bring Roosevelt back.  2 on a turnover, 2 free throws and another hoop in a 12-3 Teddies run to pull Roosevelt within 23-22 at 6:15.  Sims coast to coast for a 3 point play and then a drive for 2 more.  He keeps it going with 2 more free throws and a tough banker for 2 more.  Then another FT and a lefty finish for 2 more.  That brings Roosevelt all the way back for a 39-36 lead at the half.  Sims with 22.

Charles Cook-Gordon brings Washburn back.  2 free throws and 2 buckets for him.  Plus Charles Johnson adds a pair of hoops.  Washburn pulls out to a 51-45 lead with 10 minutes left.  Cook-Gordon sits with 4 fouls while Roosevelt goes on a 13-1 run mostly without Sims scoring.  Dyvell Dixon 2 buckets.  Feysal Yusuf with 2 free throws and a big 3 that finishes the run. 58-52 Roosevelt with 6 minutes left.  Charles Johnson 2 more scores to cut the lead to 2 with 4:20 left.  But Sims won't be stopped. He scores the next 5 to push the lead back to 7 with 3:25 left. Cook-Gordon putback and the free throw is the last gasp.  Sims 2 more buckets and he adds a final free throw.  Roosevelt wins 72-65.

Post Game:
For Washburn, they finish the regular season 10-14 overall, 6-6 in the city.  That puts them 5th.  Charles Johnson leads the way for the Millers with 21 points.  He was active poaching passing lanes either in man or coming out of the 2-3 zone.  Charles Cook-Gordon adds 17 points.  He went cold from outside after a couple 1st half 3s.  Washburn looking at the 6 seed in section 6AAAA.  They'll draw St. Louis Park or maybe Armstrong in the 1st round.

Roosevelt finishes their regular season 17-9 but a disappointing 7-5 in the Minneapolis City.  Deszi Sims another fantastic game with 40 points.  He did force some shots and didn't hit anything from distance.  That said he still got to the rim at will.  Plus he added a fantastic chase down block during the game.  Dyvell Dixon adds a solid 12 points.  The Teddies do get the W despite not having a big scoring piece in Leo Buchwald.  A 6AAA opener vs Benilde-St. Margaret's is very possible at either 3 vs 6 or 4 vs 5.   But if it were me I would put Roosevelt 4 despite their win over Cooper if Cooper beats Chaska for the Metro West title.  Waconia gets 5 over BSM due to the head to head win.
