Finally I can go out to a game and not worry about hypothermia. Must mean the tournament is fast approaching. Seeing Goodhue tonight should be interesting as they totally blew out New Life Academy 70-38 at the end of January but came into tonight on a 3 game losing streak to be 12-10. Bethany on the other hand is on a 3-10 stretch starting with MCAA play.
Bethany is within 9-6 early but a 19-1 run by Goodhue over an 8 minute stretch of the 1st half puts the game out of reach. Bethany is cold vs the Wildcats' 1-3-1 and Goodhue is hot and picking apart the Bethany 2-3 zone. David Glover gets a 4 point play as a bright spot but its 35-13 Goodhue at the half. Glover with 10 of the 13 Eagle points. Big Dan McNamara (think James Eayrs of Roseville fame) has 8 for Goodhue and he's only a junior. Massive presence inside. Glover had a really tough matchup there in the middle of that 2-3 zone.
The 2nd half doesn't get much better. Bethany scraps the entire half and does pull to 14 thanks to 3 3s from Glover in a 15-4 run but the game is still a blow out. Goodhue showed 1 possession of triangle and 2 midway thru the half which I thought was strange. A, because the game was a blowout and B, besides Glover, there wasn't anyone else scoring for Bethany. They were bothered a little by Bethany's 1-2-2 3 quarter court press, but nothing significant. Dan McNamara finishes with 12 in a balanced attack. They've got a nice point guard in Kelby Buck, McNamara inside and a couple of shooters so they can be dangerous. David Glover finishes with 21 to lead Bethany. Kyle Brubaker and Jordan Flom leads Bethany's scrappiness all the way to the final buzzer and each finish with 12. Jameson Parsons would really help this team though, tough loss for them.
Looks like Bethany will have a play-in game come tourney time (Monday 3/10). Goodhue probably looking at a 4 seed in a relatively weak west subsection of 1A, but they'd have to deal with Bethlehem Academy in round 2 if they end up #4.
