This is the 16th preview in my 2016-2017
season preview series. In this preview, a look at the east subsection
of section 5AA. The overall section expands to 19 teams but I'm projecting Heritage/Wellstone to not play the tournament series. I'll put 9 in the east and 9 in the west for balance. That includes Holy Family moving to the west subsection for sake of this preview. For a list of

Section 5AA East Subsection (9 teams)
Defending Champion: Breck
Predicted Seeding
- Brooklyn Center
- Breck
- Southwest Christian
- Providence
- Spectrum
- PACT
- Minneapolis Edison
- International School
- FAIR
- Heritage/Wellstone (if they play)
This section is top heavy with Brooklyn Center and Breck looking to rematch in the subsection final again. Southwest Christian is the clear best of the rest despite losing star Jack Jenson. The rest of the section is a major dropoff. Providence has a bunch of guys to replace. Spectrum and PACT were my last 2 picks in the MCAA, Edison and FAIR are at the bottom of the Minneapolis City and International School lost a 20/10 player of the year guy.
Sleeper: None. Too big a drop off below the top 3 to make a run.
Section Winner: Brooklyn
Center. They may a run to the subsection final last year. Most of those pieces are returning. I think they're deeper than Breck and with the 2 bigs graduating, the guard advantage goes to the Centaurs. I'll take them to get revenge on the Mustangs in this year's subsection final game.
I'm told this section will go the route of 4AA and eliminate subsections for 1-16 seeding.
