An early Minneapolis battle

Prologue
To Minneapolis Henry for their game with southside rival Washburn.  These teams the only 2 remaining undefeated teams in conference play.  No concessions, JV game or other fanfare tonight as I can't make it until a couple of minutes into the game.

Game Time
Washburn uses a 7-1 run thanks to Quinton Garvis on the offensive glass and a 3 point play off a screen and roll.  17-13 Millers at the 13:12 mark.  Nice ball movement for a Kevin Gleason layup and then he swipes the ball and finds Nick Anderson for a 3 point play.  24-16 Washburn leading at the 10:22 mark and Henry needs a timeout.  Henry right back with a 9-0 run in the next 3+ minutes to regain the lead.  Jeff Jones with a pair of buckets but Henry scores 7 in a row and goes up 4 thanks to a Darius Hill slick drive at the 3:35 mark.  42-36 Henry at the break.

After Anderson opens the half with a bucket, Henry scores the next 6 and now the lead is double digits.  Hill inside for 2 and a short jumper after an offensive rebound.  52-41 Henry with 13:25 left and now Washburn takes a timeout to stop the bleeding.  Jovahn Jefferson with a jumper to keep the lead at 11 with 11:42 left.  But Washburn does have a run in them.  Jeff Jones for 3 before he leaves with 4 fouls at the 9:20 mark.  George Clark a pair of buckets, one from Anderson.  Then Anderson to Gleason at the 7:20 mark to cut the Henry lead to 59-57.  Jamar Boone straight away for 3, Hill with the interior pass to Markel Odom and Hill on the post.  66-59 Henry with 5:10 left.  Anderson for 3 and Evan Shepherd for 2.  Back to a 2 point game with over 4 to play.  Anderson to Shepherd for a layup after another Hill bucket.  68-66 Henry with 2:35 left.  Washburn has it down 3 with 1:30 left but a post pass is right off the numbers and Henry gets it back.  Boone converts those.  Washburn gets a long 3 after a long possession but Derrick Burkhalter makes 2 free throws with 4.9 left to seal it.  Henry wins 73-69.

Post Game
For Washburn, they could never get back in the lead but did cut the double digit lead to 2.  The foul trouble of Jeff Jones took a vital scorer out of the Millers lineup.  They never really had a good game plan for Darius Hill either.  The offense with great balance (I'll take my book over the official).  Nick Andreson, Evan Shepherd, Jeff Jones all with 13.  George Clark with 12, Quinton Garvis with 9.  Fairly quiet night for Anderson and the Millers just don't get consistent shooting.  For a young team there's a certain toughness lacking as well.  Washburn falls to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the Minneapolis City.  They next play Cambridge-Isanti next Tuesday.

Henry improves to 3-0 in the Minneapolis City to take early control of the conference race.  They are 5-3 overall and host Wayzata on Tuesday. That's the middle game of a 5 game homestand.  Darius Hill too strong inside as he finishes with 28 points.  Jamar Boone with 12 of his 17 in the 1st half but a big bucket late.  Derrick Burkhalter only had 2 points in the 2nd half but they were the game clinching free throws.  He had 11 of his 13 in the 1st half and a couple of important 3s.
