New Prague at Burnsville Thoughts

Prologue
To Burnsville to see the Blaze host New Prague in a non-conference matchup.  A chance to Augustana commit Lucas Walford for New Prague plus a bunch of youngsters for Burnsville.  The pizza at Burnsville never disappoints.  Its Red Gatorade but is the G2 low calorie version so only 40 calories there.  Very sparse crowd on hand, but we did see a couple AAU guys and Crown College in the house tonight.

Game Time:
Viterbo recruit Austin Greenwalt strong to the rack and then runs out for a dunk.  Gotta give the commit to the Czar's hometown school some love.  New Prague out quickly to a 10-4 lead at 14:28 and Burnsville needs a timeout.  Walford with a long straight away 2 and buries a triple.  Greenwalt scores to counter the offense of Aloung Kang and Walford scores inside.  19-10 New Prague at 11:22.  Freshman Julian Quiroz-Hutchinson off the Burnsville bench and gives them a spark with a score and offensive board for 2 free throws.  Kang with a pair of hoops to force a New Prague timeout at 5:50.  24-18 Trojans still leading.  Burnsville's 2-3 zone really slowing the pace and giving New Prague some issues.  Walford with a nice high post dive to the hoop and gets the pass from down low for a dunk.  A late New Prague 3 sends them to the half ahead 31-23.

New Prague center Zach Hanson with a pair of free throws, a 3 point play and a steal for a dunk to push the lead to 14.  45-31 Trojans 11:13 left.  4 free throws and a steal for 2 from junior guard Jacob Washa extends the lead to 16.  Burnsville has 1 last run.  Jason Gumm playing with 4 fouls drives for 2 hoops and hammers home a dunk on a turnover.  His tip in ends a 9-0 run and cuts the New Prague lead to 56-49 with 3:15 left.  A couple of effective possessions of 1-3-1 force New Prague turnovers.  Hanson closes it out with 2 layups and 2 free throws and New Prague is in no danger.  New Prague wins 66-50.

Post Game
Jason Gumm hit the game winner to beat Eden Prairie.  He leads Burnsville tonight with 19 points, 14 in the 2nd half despite some foul trouble all night.  Aloung Kang had 10 early points but was quiet after that.  He finished with 11.  Their zone defenses showed pretty well but when behind you can't do a ton with them.  I was surprised at how many of the varsity guys played in the JV game.  Young guys too.  2 Freshmen and an 8th-grader saw time in both games.  Burnsville falls to 1-2.  They make the short trip across the river to play Jefferson on Saturday afternoon.  Then Farmington comes to town and a trip to Eastview next week.

Great balance from New Prague.  Zach Hanson leads the way with 17 points.  Lucas Walford and Austin Greenwalt each add 15.  Jacob Washa chips in with 10, Justin Gregor with 9.  That's your entire starting lineup.  They get no points from the bench.  They showed good ball movement vs the 2-3 zone but seemed to be missing a certain killer instinct against it.  The Trojans improve to 2-3 for new coach Bryce Tesdahl.  They have 5 in a row at home going into the holidays.  That starts with Glencoe-Silver Lake, upstart Chaska (beat Lakeville N tonight) and Buffalo at home next week.
